A CHILDREN’S crime survey has revealed that 28 percent of 11 and 12 year-olds in Stairfoot and Worsbrough admitted to being drunk in the last year.

The 2007 Young People’s Crime Survey, which was conducted among 11 to 18 year olds, was carried out by the police, council and youth service.

It also revealed that 59 percent of 13 to 14 year-olds have been drunk in the last 12 months, along with 85 percent of 15 to 16 year-olds and 83 percent of 17 to 18 year olds.

Tasking officer Jackie Heald said police in Kendray and Worsbrough had seen a dramatic increase in the amount of alcohol seized from youngsters in the last six months.

“There’s always a seasonal increase when the nights are warmer and lighter, but I think in the last six months we’ve seen more of an increase than we’d normally expect.”

She said the majority of the area’s problems were experienced at weekends in Dale Park, Worsbrough Dale.
