PARENTS have been left scrambling for new childcare after being told a nursery will close in three weeks.

Kids World nursery at Athersley South, which rents a building from Laithes Primary School, is shutting on April 7 - meaning the 59 children who attend will need alternative care arrangements.

Parents were informed of the news by letter this week in which the nursery said it is ‘with great sadness’ it has to close and the decision to shut is has been made due to Laithes Primary School ‘intending to retake possession’ of the building it uses as of May 1.

The letter said it has ‘explored a number of options’ but having reviewed finances and logistics of finding a a new premises in the time available, the ‘difficult decision’ was made to close.

It has prompted an online petition from parents pleading with the school to allow the nursery to stay open until the end of the academic year so mums and dads have time to make alternative arrangements and to give the nursery breathing room to find new premises.

The petition was launched by mother-of-two Nicola Naylor and has been signed by more than 115 people.
