THE LACK of public toilets on Wombwell High Street is causing frustration among local businesses, shoppers and market traders.

The toilets, which were outside Wetherspoons’ Horseshoe pub, closed three years ago and the pub giant says as a result people regularly go into the pub to use the lavatory - and for no other reason.

Wetherspoons spokesman Eddie Gershon said: “Since the public facilities closed there is no doubt that the pub is seeing a substantial increase in the use of the toilets, many times by persons not patronising the pub.

“This can lead to issues with over-use of the toilets and the team has to react with increased toilet checks.

“The disabled toilet is particularly over-used in this regard.

“We would welcome the public toilets reopening to stop this over-use in the pub.”
