New Barnsley signing Steve Foster is looking forward to his debut against Plymouth tomorrow. The central defender was signed from Burnley for £100,000 and told the Chronicle the move was the perfect opportunity for him. He said: “This is a great opportunity for me to come to a club like Barnsley. I am over the moon. I am good friends with Adie Moses and he gave the club a good report and recommended Barnsley highly.”
Foster was the subject of interest from former manager Andy Ritchie at the beginning of last year but, after leaving Crewe Alexandra, Foster opted for Burnley instead. “I came for a look around the club last year,” said Foster. “It was a difficult decision at the time because of circumstances in my personal life. “It didn’t turn out to be the right move for me, although it was a good experience. I didn’t play in my preferred position, which is centre back. “I played a lot at right back and although I have played many games for Crewe and for Burnley in that position and can do a job at right back, I am a centre back.”
He is expected to go straight into the side to face Plymouth tomorrow in place of Paul Reid, who is suspended. Foster added: “A debut game at home is always one you look for and I am looking for three points as well to make it the perfect debut.”
