INCONSIDERATE parking on side streets around the hospital is a ‘major issue’ but residents’ permit schemes to alleviate the problem have been ruled out.
The fight for parking has been raised repeatedly at the Old Town ward alliance meeting with hotspot areas said to be School Street and Kensington Road.
The ward alliance has been told many of the cars causing obstructions are staff from Barnsley Hospital as people parking up had been seen ‘heading towards the hospital with many wearing NHS identification badges’.
Old Town councillor Liz Grundy said parking is of a premium in the ward but future residents’ parking schemes are out of the question because the council doesn’t have the money to fund them.
