PENSIONERS furious at cuts to their bus service will continue to fight for its reinstatement in spite of the ‘excuses’ from the transport authorities.

The residents from Kirk Balk, Kirk View and Mount Crescent, Hoyland are unhappy at the response of the bus company to their concerns.

Ken Vickers, 80, of Mount Crescent said the number 227 service was a lifeline on its bus route.

He said: “I have lived here for 50 years and this bus is essential. People would catch this bus to the doctors when there was something wrong with them. Now they can’t.”

Stagecoach decided to withdraw the 227 in favour of a making the number 66 bus more frequent.

But the changes have meant residents on and around Kirk View have to walk to West Street or face a lengthy wait for a return bus.

The retired colliery union delegate believed it would not cost Stagecoach anything to re-route one bus an hour.
