THE pay and display parking machines at Barnsley Hospital still don’t accept the new £1 coin with just four months remaining before the old one stops being legal tender.
Patient Linda Hunter said she was frustrated when she attended an appointment last Wednesday and had to send her husband to try and pay for more time when the appointment ran late.
“He had one of the old ones, so was able to pay for so long but when he went back to pay for more time he couldn’t use the new £1 coin. He had to find someone on security to get them to make out a ticket by hand.
“I’m disabled but I still have to pay, and if you can’t do it without trekking through the hospital to find someone on security it is difficult, especially if you’re running late for an appointment.”
The ‘pay on exit’ machines used by most visitors are unaffected, but the problem is with the pay and display machines at the front of the hospital which are often used by disabled people.
