Former Barnsley players Kieran Trippier, John Stones and Jack Butland all played for England in their 3-2 friendly defeat to France on Tuesday at the Stade De France.

Previously, the only time that has happened was in 1913 when George Wall, Jackie Mordue and Tommy Boyle, who had all played for the Oakwell club before moving on, were part of the England team that lost 2-1 to Ireland.

Also in that team was Elsecar’s George Utley, the only man to have represented the England senior side while a Barnsley player – meaning more than a third of the 11 were current or former Reds.
