PLANS to open a private swimming pool at a house in Smithies to the public have been refused by Barnsley Council.

Frank Myers, of Rotherham Road, had applied for planning permission for change of use of the swimming pool in an existing outbuilding at the property to enable it to be used for private hire purposes.

It has been refused on the grounds that it would have had an unduly harmful impact on the amenity of neighbouring and nearby residents by way of increased noise, disturbance, loss of privacy and traffic congestion.

Also the access and proposed parking arrangements may have resulted in cars waiting on the busy Rotherham Road affecting the free and safe flow of traffic.

The refusal letter says: "No parking facilities have been shown for the existing dwelling; facilities must be provided and located such that there is no conflict with vehicles using the access."
