YOUNG readers are being encouraged to call into a new children’s library at Bolton-upon-Dearne on their way home from school.
It will be run on Thursday afternoons by Janet Higgins, librarian at Goldthorpe, who has been running sessions for the under fives at the Dearne Valley Children’s Centre on Billingley View. Extra funding has been approved by Barnsley Library Services to extend it all children up to 11 years.
Janet will be assisted by a volunteer, Joanne Bradder, who has been training under her.
“It’s in the community room but on Thursday afternoons it becomes the library,” said centre manager Kate Whitehouse.
“The under fives had a borrowing section on Tuesday mornings, but we didn’t have the resources to extend it. Now we’ve been given some more time for the librarian.
“We’ll also be doing story and rhyme sessions and want parents to feel it is a lot more worthwhile.”
