A MOTHER who had not seen or spoken to her children in over 17 years cried tears of joy when they were finally reunited in Canada.
Marie Tordoff, 54, from Queen Street, Hoyland Common flew to Calgary in June to see son Darren, 31, daughter, Hayley, 28 and the grandchildren she had never met.
She lost contact with the kids when her ex-husband won custody and moved them to Canada while he was in the Navy.
But the home carer never gave up hope and was rewarded when she was contacted out of the blue and invited to visit.
She said: “It was very emotional. There was lots of crying, shaking and hugging.
“That was the first time I had ever seen the two of them as grown-ups. When I last saw them they were just kids.”
But Marie said that apart from their physical appearances, the two were just as she expected.
