CANNON Hall has won funding to help pay for the restoration of two historical structures in the grounds as part of wider plans to restore the parkland to its former Georgian glory.

The £50,000 grant will be used towards returning the ice house, an underground chamber used to store ice, and a privy midden (toilet) into good condition.

Work carried out on the buildings, which date from 1780s, will allow people to explore them from both inside and out for the first time. Visitors will be able to examine their exquisite detail and find out more about their history and significance to the hall.

The grant has been awarded by The Country House Foundation, which aims to preserve buildings of historic and architectural significance, together with their gardens and grounds.
