A BARNSLEY skipper has set sail on an epic and gruelling around the world yacht race that will see him face everything Mother Nature can throw at him.
Roy Taylor was selected to lead one of 12 teams in the 40,000 nautical mile Clipper 2017-18 Round the World Yacht Race, which departed from Liverpool on Sunday.
The 47-year-old, a former Royal Air Force weapons technician turned sailor, is the skipper for the PSP Logistics vessel during the 11-month race.
Thousands watched on as the teams set off on the epic journey, which is considered one of the world’s toughest endurance challenges.
Roy, who grew up in Uplands Avenue, Kexborough, is keeping a skipper’s log throughout the race, posting daily updates online so people can follow the team’s progress.
