LOCAL groups have been encouraged to apply for a supermarket’s funding scheme.
The Co-op, which has stores in both Cudworth and Royston, wants to help organisations as part of its local community fund, a scheme which helps projects within nearby villages and works when customers opt in to donate one per cent of their shop’s cost to the cause.
Cudworth’s Sidcop Nursery benefited in the village store’s last round of grants and was awarded £3,000 after being selected by the Co-op to pitch its ideas to shoppers.
A spokesman from the Co-op said: “We’ll let applicants know if they have been selected in October and they then can start promoting the cause to our members from November.
“We’ll give preference to projects run by small, local organisations and something which benefits the local community.”
Lee Bayley, manager of Cudworth’s Co-op, added: “It’s a fantastic cause and gives back to local projects which require funding.
“It was received positively in the first round and the second round of grants are now open for local organisations to apply.”
