A FAMILY farm in Barnsley is celebrating after being crowned Yorkshire's favourite family attraction in a public vote that saw them go head to head with the top tourist attractions throughout Yorkshire.

More than 10,000 people voted in the Yorkshire Attractions online competition that saw Cannon Hall Farm scoop the award.

Cannon Hall Farm is a fully working farm run by the Nicholson family that opened to the public in 1989. Visitors can see the day to day workings of a modern farmyard with regular milking demonstrations and a programme of educational activities and amazing play areas.

Richard Nicholson, director Cannon Hall Farm, said: "We are absolutely over the moon to have been voted as Yorkshire's favourite family attraction. Our farm is a family run tourist attraction and it really does mean the world to us to win a public vote.

"Since we opened to the public we have really been striving year on year to improve our offering for our visitors. In the past 12 months this has included investing in a brand new reptile house plus high profile events such as our Easter Eggstravaganza - where we built an Easter egg factory and our sell-out Christmas events where we built an elves workshop, complete with toy factory.

"We are incredibly proud to represent farming in our community but, above all, to help families make memories to treasure on a great day out. "We cannot thank people enough for their vote, we genuinely are thrilled."
