VOLUNTEER gardeners will continue to maintain Wentworth Castle Gardens throughout the winter.

The Stainborough tourist attraction closed at Easter, with the trust responsible for managing the site saying it wasn’t making enough money.

There were concerns the gardens would become overgrown, but John Edwards, chairman of the Wentworth Castle and Stainborough Park Heritage Trust, allayed those fears in July, saying the grounds and gardens were being maintained by a small group of gardeners.

A spokesman for the council said a winter maintenance plan has now been agreed, and the garden maintenance schedule will be reviewed again in April.

The spokesman said there was no update on the future of the gardens.
