BARNSLEY Schoolboys under 15s returned from their Northern Merit League clash at the City of Salford Boys with an excellent 2-1 victory. While Manchester United were preparing to take on Wigan in the Premier league, Barnsley were battling it out just a stone's throw away from Old Trafford. Salford took the lead on 20 minutes but it lasted just five minutes as Zach Lycett raced through to coolly beat the goalkeeper after a neat pass from midfielder Arran Tate. The second half was much of the same with both sides searching for the winner and it arrived courtesy of Berry. An indirect free-kick, awarded for a back pass, 10 yards from goal saw Rob Oldham pass to Berry who cheekily drove the ball under the feet of the leaping wall who were anticipating a higher shot at goal. Captain Jamie Shirtliff then made sure of victory when his flying header cleared a goalbound effort off the line. The man of the match award was shared by the whole team.

Barnsley Boys under 14s also returned from their City of Salford counterparts with victory. It was a great team performance from the Reds, who, after going close through Bywater, Kane Alsop and Cicero, scored the only goal of the game from Alsop with a fine volley from 25 yards. Butler also hit the crossbar twice as Barnsley dominated. Barnsley Boys under 12s produced their best performance of the season at South Notts, returning with a 3-1 victory. Kane Reece opened the scoring after 12 minutes when he raced on to a through ball from Levi Ripley and chipped the goalkeeper from 20 yards. George Smith extended the lead after a good interchange of passes with Sam Severn and at the other end, Joe Green tipped a long range effort over the bar to maintain the two-goal lead. The hosts made changes at half-time and hit the post and crossbar before pulling a goal back. However, Reece rifled home after good work by Smith to seal the victory.
