SHOPPERS enjoyed traditional African singing and prayer in the town centre last Friday.

The Friday’s Apostles, a Christian sect which has members from all over Africa, spent an hour in Peel Square praying to reduce crime.

About 50 of the white-robed worshippers drew a large crowd of shoppers with their singing and chanting.

The aim of the session was to reduce crime, as they believe the Holy Spirit has told them there will be an increase in murders, rapes and kidnapping in Barnsley, Doncaster and Sheffield.

The group’s leader, Isaiah, said the day was a great success. Their prayers will now be concentrated on trying to lessen the effect of an earthquake which they believe will strike somewhere in the world in the next three years.
