SOME parents are ignoring new yellow zigzag lines and are parking illegally outside High View School, Wombwell.

The lines were put down last week in an attempt to cut dangerous traffic congestion at home times. The school, on Newsome Avenue, has complained of a serious parking problem for months, and only last week more than 80 cars were counted outside the school.

Headteacher Mrs Gerry Wilson said: “I will shortly be writing to all parents to tell them any cars parked illegally on the zigzag lines will be ticketed. We are working together as a school with the police and the council.

“I issue a plea to all parents to be considerate when they are parking. I beg for their co-operation because the safety of children at this school is paramount.”

Last Thursday the three councillors Margaret Morgan, Denise Wilde and Dick Wraith met Mrs Wilson, school manager Tim Marsh, area forum officer Mike Andrew and Alan Carnall of the council's highways department. Councillors are not convinced this will solve the problem and agreed to review it again in three months.
