SHOCKED residents of a cul-de-sac are reeling after a Barnsley woman was stabbed to death yards from their back gardens.
Jane Sally Lee, 51, suffered multiple stab wounds at an area known as Spooners Garage, off Little Westfield Lane, Royston just after lunchtime last Friday.
Her body was covered by a protective tent on Friday night while forensic tests and fingertip searches were carried out.
Mrs Lee, better known as Jane Gracie, lived at Locke Street and was believed to have had a regular cleaning job in Royston.
Locals on West Grove whose homes overlook the murder scene said it was a quiet street.
One man said: "This car came flying round and I thought what the hell was that. I though it might have run over a dog or cat and looked out of the window but this was the last thing I thought I would see.
Another neighbour said: "I was in the kitchen and the first thing I saw was the ambulance and then the body.
"It was out of the blue and all I can say is it is just unexpected. You get a few kids hanging around and drinking in the summer but nothing much else, it is really quiet."
One woman added said: "I didn't see a thing until I saw an ambulance. It has been really disturbing, awful. There was a lot of police activity all day on Saturday."
Mrs Lee's estranged husband, Robert Lee of Wentworth View, Wombwell, appeared at Barnsley Magistrates Court on Wednesday charged with her murder.
The 51 year-old was remanded in custody and ordered to appear at Sheffield Crown Court on Wednesday.
