RESIDENTS in Shafton gathered to hear plans for a new doctors surgery which the parish council have been trying to get for about 15 years.
People heard how the proposals were progressing and asked questions in the community centre on Wednesday night.
The surgery has been proposed by Shafton Parish Council who have been trying to attract a doctor into the village for a number of years.
It will be funded by Dr Magdi Selim, who runs a temporary practice just off Dog Hill. Dr Selim said his premises were not ideal as there was only one consultation room but the new surgery would include a pharmacy, a dental surgery, a small theatre and physiotherapy room. It will also have more up-to-date equipment.
He added: “The people here have been very supportive and I think we deserve what will happen in the future.” Coun Dave North said the parish council were all in favour of the new surgery. He added: “It’s unanimous.”
The suggested site for the surgery is the children’s playground behind Shafton Primary School. The playground will be moved to the back of the field. Coun North said if the playground could not be shifted the surgery would not go ahead.
