A CRISIS meeting has been held to discuss the future of the Grimethorpe Miners’ Welfare after fears it may close because of a lack of funding.
The meeting was held on Tuesday to look at where the charity could receive funding from.
Secretary Tony Devoy said: “The general consensus was that the people in charge should be doing something positive for the survival of the miners' welfare.”
Tony said he, and others, may have to have their wages reduced or possibly work free to try to save money.
He added: “It may come to that if we are losing that much money. I am a bit nervous and apprehensive.”
The miners’ welfare devised a report in May last year which made public the social problems still existing in the community and aimed to focus on a project designed to deal with social, sporting, health and young people’s issues.
