A WHITE van was left planted on its roof in a field after it was blown off a road and through a wall in a freak gale - but miraculously the driver walked away.

Raymond Charles was driving home from work along North Row near Penistone last Friday when his vehicle was blown onto two wheels.

A second gust then flipped the vehicle over and sent it crashing through a wall and into a signpost before landing in the field.

Raymond, 36, who crawled out with just cuts and bruises, said: "It happened so fast and I had no idea the winds were so bad. I just gripped the wheel and braced myself, I saw the post coming towards me and I just prayed it wouldn't come through the windscreen.

"I checked I wasn't hurt or impaled and crawled out of the cab window. A driver had stopped and he looked more shocked than I was that I had got out alive."
