AN INDUSTRIAL disease specialist is urging people with pleural plaques to contact their MPs for help. The House of Lords has ruled suffers of the asbestos related condition, which scars the lining of the lungs, cannot claim compensation because they do not have 'symptoms' of a disease. Carol Gill, of Barnsley based Raleys Solicitors, was part of a protest against the controversial decision at the Houses of Parliament this week. She said: “There were union leaders and MPs at the event, as well as those actually suffering from pleural plaques and the issue is certainly being brought to the attention of the government like never before. “There is no better time than now for anyone affected by this ruling to contact their MP and show the lawmakers that they have made the wrong decision. “A diagnosis of pleural plaques means that an individual does have an increased risk of developing another asbestos related disease. These people should be entitled to compensation, all they did, was to go to work.”
