DARFIELD Museum has a new exhibit - the first item in the museum to be won on Internet auction site ebay.
Chairman Geoffrey Hutchinson bid nearly £100 for the red leather-bound folio presented to Rev Arthur Taylor in 1884.
He left the Darfield parish after two years, but parishioners were so delighted with the service that he had given to the parish they presented him with a gold watch and the folio containing an illuminated message of thanks and the names of all the subscribers to the gift.
The gold watch has disappeared but following the online auction, the leather folio now belongs to the museum.
Mr Hutchinson said: "It's the first item we've won on ebay, although we have tried to buy other items before and been outbid.
"We'll continue to watch it very closely because these little treasures are hiding in all sorts of places."
Some of the money for the purchase came personally from members of the amenity society which runs the museum, with some coming from society funds."
