THE Methodist Church in Brierley is to be renovated at a cost of almost £500,000.
Church members are hoping create a new entrance and toilets with disabled facilities, a hall and kitchen.
Secretary Edwin Hambleton said the plans, which are subject to changes, are to demolish the red brick building, build a community hall and use the old hall as a worship area with seating for 70 There will also be more car parking facilities.
A questionnaire asking for opinions and suggestions for improvements has been circulated by the church.
Edwin, who lived in Brierley until he moved to South Hiendley five years ago, said the questionnaire had been handed out to find out what residents in Brierley think and feel about the church.
He added: "It has been handed out so when we contact the central Methodist Church for funding, our chances of receiving it will be much greater.
"It is a PR exercise which will be used to support our request for funding from the central Methodist Church and other places."
He doubted if rebuilding the church from scratch would be any cheaper and said it would leave the congregation with no worship area until the new building was completed.
