A TEACHER at a special needs school is planning to scale dizzying heights to raise money to take the 28 pupils on the trip of a lifetime.

John Hubbard, a teacher at Denby Grange School, plans to climb all 14 Snowdonia peaks in 24 hours next weekend to raise money to take his students to an outdoor activity camp in Wales in the summer.

As an incentive to get extra sponsorship the pupil who raises the most gets to choose a haircut for their teacher to do the walk with.

John, 42, said: "Some of the children at the school haven't been out of Yorkshire and have never seen a real mountain, hopefully by doing this they will get to go to Wales and have a memorable experience, if not a life changing one."

John, who has been climbing mountains for more than 10 years, says this will be a whole new challenge.

He said: "I have been going on long walks with weights on my ankles and cycling in preparation. I'm doing it on my own but I will have support along the way with friends doing parts of it with me and hopefully a few people will be waiting when I finish to take me for a pint."

John will set off to north Wales next week and is praying for good weather to help him reach the summit in peak time.

If anyone wants to sponsor John go to denbygrange3000@hotmail.co.uk or call the school on 01924 830096.
