A HOYLAND hairdresser took the town's top honour when she won the female Face of Barnsley.
Nikki Booker, 17, did not know she had been entered into the contest when she sailed through the opening round.
Mum Julie of Eaden Crescent, sent the photograph to the Chronicle competition without asking Nikki first.
But now the modest Barnsley College pupil is delighted she took the judges by storm.
She said "I was really surprised to get to the final as it's not something I'd ever have entered myself for.
"I'm not someone who really likes attention but I'm really glad I did it now. It was a great experience. "My mum burst into tears when they announced it. They were all really proud of me."
The former Kirk Balk pupil, who works part-time in her auntie's hairdresser's shop, thinks a few of the regulars might have been among the voters.
