DRIVING examiners are having to bend the rules to stop learner drivers from failing because of inconsiderate parking outside Barnsley test centre.
They are running into trouble just yards from the DSA test centre, on West Road, Pogmoor because parked cars lining both sides of the road are reducing drivers' vision and allowing only one vehicle to pass down the road at any one time.
Glen Kitchen, examiner and general manager at the centre, said he is having to use discretion when it comes to passing or failing learner drivers.
He added: "I had one woman taking her test with me and as she was pulling out of the centre she was suddenly faced with an articulated lorry in front of her in a very tight space.
"She didn't know what to do and I had to tell her how to handle the situation.
"Technically, she could have failed her test because of that but it's a matter of discretion on our part and you can't blame her for panicking a little."
He says the problem has grown worse since a parking scheme was introduced by the council in and around the hospital.
