TOM Watts is back home in Cawthorne after a ten week expedition in South America building school houses, scaling mountains and navigating his way through dense jungle.

The 18-year-old gap year student travelled to Costa Rica in January with charity organisation Raleigh International after deciding to take a year out before starting university. He said it was hard work at times but a good laugh and he got to meet lots of interesting people. He added: "Out there you really do have to pull together.

"At one point we got lost in the jungle on our way to Panama crossing the border to collect materials to build with. "But by working as a team we got there and it is rewarding when you reach the top of a mountain peak, it feels like such an achievement."
