BARNSLEY Trades Council has pledged its support to a proposed week of strike action by factory workers at Wybone Limited next week.

Community union members plan to stage the latest round of walkouts after a series of one-day strikes failed to settle a pay dispute.

Council secretary Brian Steele said it was important for the council to offer support to its affiliated unions.

He said: "It is getting more serious for them when people are losing earnings and the employer seems to be doing little to end the dispute. It is a tragedy people are having to go on strike to fight for a pay increase in line with inflation.

"Trades council delegates will be joining the picket line with the TUC banner and I have written to other unions in Barnsley to invite them to bring their trade union banners to give a demonstration of support."

The week-long strike at the outdoor furniture manufacturers will start on Monday since talks between the union and management reached a standstill.
