A MOTORIST had a lucky escape when the bough of a tree snapped off in high winds and landed on her car.
She was driving along Thickett Lane towards Ardsley Road, Worsbrough after lunch time on Sunday when the 30 foot long bough fell narrowly missing other cars.
Retired fireman Stewart Daley, 62, who lives nearby captured the hairy moment on camera. He said: "My wife was having lunch and sat in the lounge looking out and just said 'Jesus Christ' as this car came to a stop just outside.
"She must have driven 75 yards with it on the front of her car until she stopped. The ambulance and police came and they took her home. She didn't seem to be hurt, I spoke to her and she seemed ok but a little dazed.
"The branch was massive, the fire brigade came and cut it into pieces but still took five or six of them to carry it off the car."
The strong winds uprooted two trees which blocked the trans Pennine Trail in separate places and forced some cyclists to divert onto the road. One was about a quarter of a mile west of Hound Hill Lane and the other on the stretch between Aldham Bridge and Stairfoot.
The Chronicle alerted the council to the obstructions on Tuesday and they were later cleared.
