PLANS for a GP walk-in centre in Barnsley were met with scorn from Dearne residents and councillors.
Consultant Joanne Wilson, acting on behalf of Barnsley PCT, unveiled plans for the centre, which will be based in Barnsley town centre and where people can walk in and see a doctor without making an appointment, at the Dearne area forum on Monday.
But ward members argued that LIFT centres, specialist health centres which house GPs and where minor surgery can be performed, had only just been opened and that there was little point of telling Dearne residents of another service more than ten miles away.
