CRIME in the forum area is decreasing according to a report by the Safer Neighbourhood Team.

Inspector Julie Mitchell, of Darton and Dodworth SNT, gave an update on crime statistics in the forum area and compared them with those from last year.

According to the update, given by Insp Mitchell at the last meeting, crime in general has decreased by 10.2 per cent and the only increase is in house burglaries, up by 11 per cent on last year.

Insp Mitchell said the increase was mainly due to a spate of distraction burglaries in March and a man has since admitted all the offences.

In other burglaries, such as sheds and garages, there was a drop of 9.2 per cent and the number of vehicles being broken into has reduced by 7 per cent.

He said vehicle crime is starting to rise again and the Safer Neighbourhood Team will hand out crime prevention advice to the public.

The most significant drop was in criminal damage, down by 29.4 pr cent on last year but the SNT has warned there are still high volumes of this type of crime.

The team is continuing beat sweeps in hot spot areas where antisocial behaviour is known to occur regularly.
