FLOOD-HIT residents from Darton have handed over a petition to the council calling for better flood defences in the village and revealed plans to take their case to Downing Street.
Over 100 members of the Darton and Wombwell amalgamated flood action group joined forces on Friday, August 15 to hand in two petitions demanding better defences in both areas.
Jill Auty is postmaster at Darton post office on Church Street.
Her home and business was one of the worst-hit during the deluge, taking nine months and costing £200,000 to repair before it could reopen in March.
She says the handing over of the two 900 and 1,200 signature petitions is about keeping the issue on the council's agenda so flood victims aren't forgotten about.
