A CAT owner is warning residents to be on their guard after her two- year-old pet was shot with an air rifle.

Avril Goodall’s cat, Lucky, came home on Friday hardly able to walk and screamed when touched.

A trip to the vet, an x-ray, and overnight stay confirmed the cat had been shot and the pellet, still lodged in her shoulder, had just missed her chest and bones.

Avril says youths had been seen shooting in the area and doesn’t know whether the injuries were accidental or deliberate.

The incident has been reported to the police and although Lucky is recovering Avril is worried it could have happened to a child.

Avril, 52, of Grange Road, said: “How she got home I don’t know. She was badly injured and at first I thought she had been hit by a car.

“She is ok and making a full recovery. She is going out but not too far because she had been treated for shock as well.

“If it was accidental, then there are a lot of young children at risk of being accidentally shot, one of them being my 22-month-old grandson who sometimes walks in the field on our street.
