A SOLDIER who appeared in the Chronicle prior to joining up has left the army after 23 years' service.
Jonathan Nichols, 39, was featured in the Chronicle in 1984 when, as a 15 year-old, he and cousin Iain Whittingham decided they would walk the Pennine Way and the Cumbria to Whitby coast to coast walk during their summer holidays in preparation for joining the army.
A former pupil at Honeywell Comprephensive School, Jonathan grew up on Byron Drive, Monk Bretton, where his parents still live. He now lives at Leominster with wife Barbara and daughter Ella.
