COUNCIL houses in Penistone have been left with windows falling out, leaking roofs and damp because repairs by council contractors have been put off for months.

Angry residents in Lyttleton Crescent, Cubley say their homes were initially surveyed to be upgraded in 2005 but repairs still haven't been started.

They have been told some improvements will take place in February but that they will only be getting new windows and doors and not new kitchens as they had originally been promised.

One elderly woman, who has lived there for 22 years, said: "It has upset a lot of us having to live like this, we keep getting our hopes up and nothing gets done.

"It's freezing up here in the winter, specially when snow comes through the roof and the windows are damp and rotten."

Penistone town councillor Carol Bradbury said she has had dozens of complaints from residents.
