A STAINCROSS man has bought a seven and a half tonne Scorpion tank and plans to have it on the road within weeks.
Glenn Parry, owner of Norman's Motor Shop on Blacker Road, said he wants to use the vehicle to pop down the local co-op, take his mates for a pint and travel to work.
“I just like them and they’re fun. It’s the ultimate thing in vehicles.” Glenn, 40, discovered the Scorpion, which has a 4.2 litre engine and a top speed of 70mph, was for sale after he bought some old tank shells on the internet auction website eBay.
“I rang the bloke to arrange delivery of the shells and he said I was lucky to catch him in as he had just bought a tank.
“I started asking him questions about it and in the end he said ‘do you want to buy it?’.”
He passed his tank driving test this week and now has to provide proof of age of the vehicle to the DVLA and he will be given a number plate. Fully comprehensive insurance will cost him about £150 a year.
