BARNSLEY’S University Centre has become one of only seven higher education institutions in the country to offer a degree in alternative medicine.
The Huddersfield- based college will start its new holistic therapies course in September next year.
Students will learn about subjects such as aromatherapy, massage and reflexology, with an emphasis on work experience.
Marketing officer Josie Harvey said: “People are much more interested in these types of therapies these days.
“It’s not about curing people, it’s about making them feel better so they can heal themselves.
“Tutors do often refer people to their GPs and we’re very careful to tell people that holistic therapies work alongside conventional treatment.
“We’ve had a number of people enquire about the course even though it’s not starting until September, 2007.”
