A SEARCH is underway to find a Barnsley person to spearhead a national campaign promoting good health.

The borough is one of four flagship areas across the country for the Everyday Sport scheme, designed to encourage people to build physical activity and sport into their lives.

To launch the campaign, organisers are looking for a local ‘hero’ whose life has changed through physical exercise to inspire others to join in.

They might have motivated other people to change, such as helping children to become active or hosting armchair aerobics for the over 80s.

The winner will take part in an advertising campaign including billboards.

Alistair Copeland is the acting regional director in Yorkshire for organisers Sport England. He said: “The Everyday Sport heroes will help inspire others to get active by showing how easy and simple it is through real-life experiences.”
