A THURNSCOE eyesore is due to be demolished after being boarded up for five years.
Ten terraced properties on Lidgett Lane (numbers 57 to 75) is expected to be demolished as part of the wider regeneration project taking place in the village.
Since the houses and former shops were boarded up, vandals and looters have removed the copper piping, lead and roof tiles and there have been several fires.
One resident said: "It is all a mess. We were getting fed up with kids hanging around and fire engines coming. The fish shop closed at Christmas and as soon as it did they were in smashing the door in and they were in.
"They have been saying they are going to bring it down and re-build it again but it has been a long time. It has been a lot of hassle really."
The Bullseye car spares shop, which has been in business for over 20 years, at the end of the row will be staying put. The shop will get a new gable end separating it from the rest of the properties.
Manager Ray Senior added he was glad the shop was staying because it is well established and takes up four properties so it would have been difficult to re-locate.
He said: "We are surprised the council is leaving us up because they are spending a lot of money on it but same as anything it takes a long time."
Plans for the works were submitted to the council this week
