HUNDREDS of pupils have been kept off school by parents after cases of swine flu were diagnosed at three schools in Barnsley.
Children were withdrawn from The Hill Primary, Thurnscoe, Birdwell Primary and Penistone Grammar after parents were given letters stating pupils were showing swine flu symptoms.
In Thurnscoe, where a five-year-old girl was confirmed as having the virus, parents said they did not want to risk their children's health. Cabinet spokesman for schools Linda Burgess said schools were following national advice.
NHS Barnsley said preparations are being made for when the vaccine became available.
