POPPY the dog is a dogged guide when it comes to saving lives and finding bus stops and shops.

She stopped her owner, Judith Evans, 32, and daughter Lucy, five, from being run over, less than a month after qualifying as a guide dog for the blind.

Judith was in the process of crossing the road near Morrisons when Poppy walked in front of her and Lucy and prevented them going any further.

Seconds later a car came round the corner which the dog had heard but not Judith.

Judith, of Worsbrough Road, Birdwell, said:" She is trained only to come round my left leg but all of a sudden she had come across us both and stopped us going any further.

"The car came round the corner and had gone before we realised it."
