AN UNEMPLOYED man has been told he cannot apply for a job under a new scheme - because he lives in the wrong part of Barnsley.
Former council administration assistant Robert Courtney, 58, has been out of work for 14-months.
But because of his postcode he is not eligible for a job under the Future Jobs Fund which aims to get the long-term unemployed back into work. Ironically, Robert lives on Prospect Street.
He is desperate to find work and was interested in two roles. Job Centre staff sent him application forms and he filled these in and returned them on Wednesday.
Hours afterwards he received a phone call telling him he was ineligible because of his postcode. He said: "I feel discriminated against. What do they want me to do, move house?"
Council leader Steve Houghton said he understood Mr Courtney's frustration but the council had to follow national rules. However, he said somebody would contact Mr Courtney to arrange a meeting.
