DOROTHY the owl will celebrate 21 years of attending the Penistone Show next weekend.

Geoff Mottram from the owl sanctuary at Thurlstone has been taking her to the 'greatest show on earth' each year since she was young.

"It came in injured," he said.

"The biggest percentage that come in to the sanctuary can go back to the wild but it had two bad wings so had to stay."

Geoff, 75, of Manchester Road in Thurlstone, has worked with owls for 25 years.

"Owls don't age really, they don't go wrinkly like humans," he said.

"They just seem to stay as they are. I'm putting it down to her eating rats and mice, there must be something in that."

You can see Dorothy at the 136th annual Penistone Show on the showfield and recreation ground in the village on Saturday, September 12.
