A CANCER patient, who defied doctors by surviving a rare brain tumour, has celebrated by getting married to the girlfriend who pulled him through.
Peter Wilkinson, 23, of Swift Street, Old Town, is one of about ten adults a year in the UK to be diagnosed with a pineal blastoma, an aggressive tumour which usually only affects children under three and is inoperable.
He had visited the optician after suffering a series of headaches but was immediately sent to an eye clinic at the Hallamshire Hospital, Sheffield in May, 2007.
The former Kingstone pupil had six weeks of radiotherapy and nine months of chemotherapy at Weston Park Hospital in Sheffield to beat the disease, which had already spread to his spine.
They married eight weeks ago at All Saints' Church, Silkstone, and had their reception at Tankersley Manor with guests donating more than £500 for the Weston Park cancer charity.
