A BLIND man has fulfilled a lifetime ambition by taking up cycling on the Trans-Pennine Trail.
Martin Wilson uses a tandem at the Men's Health project at Shaw Lane rugby club.
"I have always wanted to be able to ride a bike, and it seems a tandem is the perfect way to go about it," he said.
"It's been superb coming down here, being in safe hands, and getting on with it. Today is the first time I've done it and we've been out about an hour on the trail.
"I'll be back every week even though a tandem takes some getting used to, you have to be in sync with the other cyclist but I will definitely stick with it.
Nick Gillott, a community men's health officer at Shaw Lane, said he and his team were more than happy to help Martin as the project is about 'thinking outside the box'.
"No challenge is too big for us," he said.
"Martin came to us and said he wanted to cycle, so we've found a way to do it by buying a tandem.
"We have a trainer on board too, Chris Peel, to go out with him on the bike because we didn't want him stuck in a room on an exercise bike."
