ALEX Morris wrote his name into Barnsley CC’s history books on Sunday when he became the first Shaw Laner to reach 1,000 runs in a season. After posting 36 against Rotherham on Saturday, Morris needed just 27 against Harrogate the following day and duly reached the landmark after his knock of 42.
A delighted Morris said: “It was a fantastic feeling to reach the landmark. I was aware of it going in to the game on Sunday. I was not too sure when the 1,000th run was hit but I knew I had reached it because people were congratulating me after. To be honest I have never set myself targets, even when I played professionally. I have always looked to do just my best in each game.
“A lot of people have asked why I have done so well with the bat and I think it is down to the Tuesday and Thursday training sessions. They have helped me bat consistently. “This season has been a great experience not just for me but for the club. To be involved has been fantastic.”
