A PENSIONER died of hypothermia as temperatures plunged four degrees below freezing.
Widow Mary Priestland, 90, of King Street, Goldthorpe, was found in the garden and a post-mortem has confirmed the cause of death. It is thought she may have fallen while in the garden or become confused because of the cold.
And on Saturday Woodhead Mountain Rescue team was called to help the Yorkshire Air Ambulance which had been grounded by the big freeze at The Dog and Partridge pub car park near The Flouch.
The team covered its engine air vents with a tent. The air ambulance had been called out to rescue the occupants of an overturned minibus but was unable to move.
The worst winter for 31 years is set to continue into next week - with more snow - and concerns have been raised for the elderly.
